Movie teaser
Synopsis:
Soul Mates is a narrative film about two young girls, Elena and Anna, whose friendship stands the test of time in the midst of war, hate, cultural and religious differences. It is set during World War II in Macedonia’s capital Skopje, when Yugoslavia falls under the Fascist regime and Eastern Macedonia is occupied by the Bulgarian Nazis. Soul Mates is a reminder of the Sephardic Jewish influence on European history as characters confront power relationships and comes to terms with the meaning of justice.
Director:
Marija Makeska was born in Skopje in 1986. Flirting with the idea of an acting career in college, she decided it wasn't the thing for her and decided to become a filmmaker. She was awarded a Stipend Award for Project Soul Mates. Project Soul Mates was promoted on national TV in Macedonia, the internet, and was a selection for the 2003 Film Festival in Skopje, Macedonia. Other films (narratives) of hers are My Dog Rania (2008), It's a Small World (2009), and she currently has another one in production Slippery People, and will be finished by the end of 2009.
