"The making of the feature film Фросина (Frosina) in 1952 is considered as the beginning of the feature film production of North Macedonia. In the very first years after World War II and the formation of the first independent government of Socialist Republic of Macedonia within the Federation of Yugoslavia, subjects such as labour migration, national awareness, struggle for freedom and independence, martyrdom for national interests and so one, were the most prominent and supported by the political elites. The whole project put to the test the potential and creative knowhow of local filmmakers who by 1952 worked only in the documentary genre. The filmmaking had to meet the standards of the cinematic art, but also the requirements of the ideological and political beliefs. The Macedonian language was accepted as official on the territory of Socialist Republic of Macedonia in 1944 and making a long feature film in this language was an aspiration and a challenge ..."
