In the midst of the Bosnian War, Samira, a young teacher from Sarajevo, takes a job teaching in a small village. Her life changes in an instant when she and the other villagers are rounded up by soldiers and taken away to a camp. The men are killed, while Samira and the other women are subjected to the most brutal and inhuman treatment imaginable. Samira is forced to make difficult choices in order to survive this harsh reality.

Juanita Wilson is an Irish born writer and director. She is known for "As If I Am Not There" (2010), "The Door" (2008) and "Tomato Red" (2016). Her films have been screened at prominent film festivals worldwide. For the film "The Door", she was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Short Film, Live Action.

The film "As If I Am Not There" won 6 IFTA Awards and 4 more IFTA nominations. The film was also awarded on the Istanbul International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Phoenix Film Festival and Seattle International Film Festival. The film was selected as the Irish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards.
