Vele is an underpaid train mechanic who uses stolen marijuana to make a cake to relieve his father’s cancer pain. He suddenly finds himself cornered by the criminals looking for their drugs and by the nosy neighbours who want the recipe for this “healing” cake. This is a timely look at an issue many countries are facing and one Macedonian’s solution.

Secret Ingredient is the winner of many competitions at festivals around the world including those of Aubagne, Thessaloniki, Santa Barbara, Bergamo, Rome (FrancoFilm), and Sofia. It also was the official selection and prize nominee at many international film festivals, most recently, Cleveland International Film Festival. It was the first Macedonian film to be featured on HBO Go (Europe).

‘Secret Ingredient’ is the first feature film by the Macedonian director Gjorche Stavreski. Gjorce Stavreski was born in Skopje, Macedonia. He graduated from the Department of Film Direction at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje. He is an awarded film and video professional who has made films, documentaries and over 100 commercials, working as director, producer and screenwriter. His films have been shown at many festivals throughout the world, winning international awards. As a child he was a math prodigy and recipient of the prestigious national award “13th of November” for math and sciences.
