In 1997, the year Ellen De Generes comes out, John is a little boy who dreams of becoming a cop. He wants to confide in his neighbour Mr. Carter that he’s secretly in love with him. Time is of the essence as the 65-year-old heterosexual detective is being evicted. Mr. Carter’s hot 36-year-old girlfriend Lucilla keeps insulting him in front of the neighbours, because his get-rich-quick schemes only make them poorer. Inspired by his favourite movie Sense and Sensibility, John decides to write a love letter. But Lucilla discovers the letter before Mr. Carter has a chance to read it.
