When Marko and his mother arrive at a refugee center full of children, women and old people, the boy meets two new friends who explain to him that it's just a matter of time before the soldiers deliver another shoebox full of the belongings of someone's father who has died in the war. As they settle in, one of the boys reveals to Marko that the classroom that Marco and his mother are housed in is cursed: death will visit whoever's last name is on the door, and they will likely receive a shoebox. Marko becomes obsessed with the sound of the military jeep that is supposed to deliver the dreaded shoebox and figures out a plan to outwit Death.
